Gobos Move
With You

At sizes ranging from 4'x3' to 8'x4', the MCA Gobos provide real acoustic control for modern studios and applications. The dual-sided design gives you two tools in one: absorptive fabric for controlling reflections and diffuse pegboard for maintaining energy and dimension. This flexibility lets you adapt your room to each session's specific needs.

Use gobos to:

  • Create temporary isolation between instruments during tracking
  • Control what each microphone hears without permanent construction
  • Position as freestanding bass traps behind mix positions
  • Shape room tone by adjusting placement and orientation
  • Address asymmetrical room layouts where permanent treatment isn't practical
  • Build modular acoustic environments that adapt as your work evolves

Grammy-winning engineer Dave Clauss and Andrew Masters discuss using Gobos in the studio:

home Music studio with a drum set, guitars, Music City Acoustics gobos and diffusers and microphones on a carpeted floor.

What Changes When You Add Gobos

You control exactly what each microphone hears, shaping tone and isolation to serve the performance.

Rooms that couldn't support permanent treatment now have professional-grade acoustic control.

Reposition gobos between takes to dial in exactly the sound you need.

The same room works for tracking, mixing, video production, and everything in between.

Vocals sit clearly in recordings, drum tones become focused, and room reflections support the sound instead of fighting it.

Gobos don't just solve acoustic problems. They give you creative control over your space, your sound, and your sessions.

Your Questions: Answered

  • Yes. While our standard gobos feature absorptive fabric on one side and reflective diffuse pegboard on the other, we can build gobos with fabric on both sides for customers who need full absorption. Contact us for custom orders.

  • Broadband gobos (5 3/4" deep with 4" insulation) are effective from 100 Hz up and work well for vocal tracking, instrument isolation, and mid/high-frequency control. Bass Trap gobos (7 3/4" deep with 6" insulation) extend absorption down to 63 Hz and provide deeper low-frequency control for mix positions, tracking rooms, and bass-heavy applications.

  • Both. Casters install and remove easily. Leave them on for maximum mobility during sessions. Remove them for better acoustic isolation to the floor and more compact storage. Many customers use both approaches depending on the application.

  • Absolutely. We offer custom dimensions and can add sightline windows for visual communication between rooms. Contact us with your specific requirements and we'll provide a quote.

  • Position Bass Trap gobos against walls with a few inches of air gap behind them. This increases their effective depth and improves low-frequency absorption. They work particularly well as rear wall treatment behind mix positions or in corners for maximum modal control.

  • Yes. Gobos are incredibly versatile in small spaces. Use them to control reflections behind your microphone during vocal tracking, position them as rear wall treatment when mixing, or roll them aside when you need floor space. The dual-sided design lets you balance absorption and reflection based on what the room needs.
