MCA Scatter Face Diffusers are one-dimensional acoustic diffusers designed to mount over existing acoustic panels. Built from Baltic Birch plywood using a binary amplitude-style pattern, they scatter sound from approximately 1,800 Hz to 7,500 Hz. Perfect for home studios and listening rooms where you need absorption for low-end control while maintaining air, depth, and stereo imaging in the mids and highs.

Scatter Face Diffusers are built to order in our Nashville shop. Production typically takes 1–2 weeks, with most orders completed in 8–10 business days. Once finished, orders usually arrive within 3–5 business days.

Smaller orders ship via UPS Ground, while larger orders ship via LTL freight to keep costs reasonable. Shipping is available within the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii.

Local pickup is available in Nashville.

Eligible items may be returned within 30 days of delivery if unused and in original packaging. A 10% restocking fee applies, and return shipping is the customer's responsibility. Custom and special-order products are not eligible for return.

Diffusers that have been painted or stained cannot be returned, as they are no longer in new, unused condition.

All Scatter Face Diffusers include a 3-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship under normal indoor use.

Scatter Face Diffusers are built using high-performance materials selected for acoustic performance, durability, and versatility.

Frame and Construction Materials
  • Material: Baltic Birch plywood, precision CNC-cut
  • Construction: Binary amplitude-style pattern using multiple wood slats for one-dimensional diffusion
  • Finish: Sanded to 220 grit, unfinished
  • Design: 0.75" thick slat construction designed to mount over existing absorption panels

Our construction approach prioritizes long-term performance and structural integrity while using premium materials.

Wood Finish and Customization

Scatter Face Diffusers come unfinished, sanded to 220 grit and ready to install as-is. The raw Baltic Birch finish is beautiful and requires no additional treatment.

Optional finishing: Customers may stain or paint their diffusers without affecting acoustic performance. Leaving the wood unfinished showcases the beauty of Baltic Birch and allows us to keep prices down while using premium materials like Baltic Birch instead of MDF or lower-grade plywood.

Indoor Use and Safety

All materials used in Scatter Face Diffusers are appropriate for indoor environments, including studios, homes, offices, schools, and houses of worship.

  • Baltic Birch plywood is designed for interior architectural use
  • Materials are stable and durable in typical indoor conditions

Scatter Face Diffusers are designed to mount directly over existing acoustic panels and include a wood hanging cleat for simple installation.

Installation: Simply hang the Scatter Face on the top edge of your existing Bass Trap or Broadband Panel using the included cleat. They're designed to be repositioned easily, allowing you to experiment with placement.

Common placements:

  • Over panels on sidewalls near early reflection points
  • Over panels on the back wall behind your listening position
  • Any location where you need to balance absorption with diffusion

Scatter Face Diffusers are designed specifically to work in combination with absorption panels. They scatter mid and high frequencies while the panels underneath handle low-frequency control.

Installation guides are available as downloadable PDFs with step-by-step instructions.

Add Air and Dimension to Every Mix

MCA Scatter Face Diffusers bring balance and brilliance to thoroughly treated rooms. Home studios need serious absorption to control low frequencies and early reflections, but too much absorption can lead to spaces sounding tight and fatiguing. Scatter Faces solve this by scattering mid and high frequencies while your panels handle the low end.

The room opens up. Suddenly you're hearing width you didn't know existed. Depth that wasn't there before. Stereo imaging that's sharp and precise. Your mixes and records stop feeling flat and start feeling alive. Mount them over your existing panels with the included hanging cleat and hear the difference immediately.

Built for Home Studios

Modern home studio with audio equipment and a large screen displaying colorful graphics.

Scatter Face Diffusers add dimension and air to home studios without compromising low-end control. Recording environments maintain energy and natural tone for vocals and acoustic instruments. Mixing rooms gain stereo width and depth of field, making it easier to place elements in the soundstage and hear reverb tails without fatigue. Mount them over existing Bass Trap or Broadband panels to balance absorption with the spatial cues that keep rooms feeling alive.

Two-channel listening rooms benefit from the balance Scatter Faces provide. They enhance stereo imaging and depth while your acoustic panels control low frequencies and early reflections. The result is a more immersive, detailed listening experience where your system reveals every layer of the recording without the room sounding over-damped or lifeless.

Your Questions: Answered

  • Scatter Face Diffusers mount directly over existing acoustic panels using the included hanging cleat. Simply hang them on the top edge of your panel, and they're ready to work. They're designed to be repositioned easily, so you can experiment with placement to dial in exactly the balance you're looking for.

  • No. Scatter Face Diffusers are designed specifically to mount over existing absorption panels like Bass Traps or Broadband Panels. They work by scattering mid and high frequencies while the panels underneath handle low-frequency control. Without absorption behind them, they won't deliver the balanced acoustic performance they're designed for.

  • Scatter Face Diffusers are designed to mount over existing panels and work best in smaller home studios where you need absorption for low-end control but want to maintain air and dimension. Stepped QRDs are freestanding diffusers that mount directly to walls or ceilings and work in a wider range of spaces, including larger studios, listening rooms, and churches. If you already have heavy absorption and want to add life back into the room, Scatter Faces are the right choice. If you're treating a room from scratch or need diffusion in multiple locations, QRDs are more versatile.

  • Scatter Faces work best mounted over panels on sidewalls near early reflection points or on the back wall behind your listening position. The goal is to balance absorption with diffusion in areas where you need low-frequency control but want to maintain spatial cues. Experiment with placement to find what sounds best in your specific room.

  • No. Scatter Face Diffusers come sanded and ready to install as-is. The raw Baltic Birch finish looks great in most spaces, but you can stain or paint them if you prefer. Just avoid heavy coatings that could fill the gaps between slats, as this may affect acoustic performance.
